In mid-2023, I came across a team that had completed their blog writing training at the Somali Public Agenda (SPA)\u2019s Centre for Learning and Development. Curious about blogging, I conducted some research and discovered a whole new realm that had previously escaped my attention. Realizing the missed opportunity, I reached out to my friend Mohamed Adam, who heads the SPA\u2019s Public Agenda Forum, to ask about potential blogging training opportunities. He advised me to stay tuned for updates on the upcoming application opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Subsequently, in early January 2024, I became aware of the call for bloggers on the SPA website and promptly submitted my application along with all my recommendations. Consequently, I was chosen as one of the successful candidates to participate in this training program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before enrolling in this course, I had limited knowledge about the details of blog writing. However, I presumed it would encompass elements of journalism, which was the initial aspect that caught my attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The course structure implemented by the Somali Public Agenda (SPA) team was reasonably absorbing. It covered four weeks, with two days of instruction scheduled each week and the other for coaching and mentorship. Every week, participants were required to attend a one-day course session to delve deeper into the subject matter. Throughout the four-week duration, we had the privilege of learning from four distinguished mentors and experienced bloggers. The executive director of Jaantus Data Journalism stood out as the most open and humorous individual I have ever encountered. In addition, we were enlightened by the director of the Institute of Climate and Environment at Simad University Mohamed Okash, and the executive director of SPA Mahad Wasuge. To top it off, we had the pleasure of meeting Farhia Mohamud, a researcher, and blogger at SPA, for a well-rounded learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SPA provided complimentary coffee and water during learning hours. The environment was conducive to the learning and engaging sessions. The instructors delivering the lessons were both well-prepared and adept at conveying information. Their teaching style was captivating, as they held the student\u2019s attention without simply reciting from the slides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This SPA course stands out due to its unique approach in preparing us weekly to tackle assignments that will undergo thorough evaluation at the Centre of Learning and Development. Upon completion and verification of your work, you will receive accreditation as a token of recognition and appreciation. Meanwhile, encountering introverts has led me to utilize this training and blogging platform to share my thoughts with a wider audience and discuss topics that hold personal importance to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the training session, we organized a football match with the Somali public agenda, mentors, and blogging classmates. The event turned out to be incredibly entertaining and intense. Unfortunately, we were defeated by SPA with a score of 1:0. Nonetheless, it was considered one of the most thrilling games I have played in recent times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the 4-week training period at SPA, I had the privilege of encountering an innovative and top-notch range of products. Moreover, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand the SPA community\u2019s active involvement in creative initiatives aimed at enhancing the writing skills of young individuals. I extend our heartfelt gratitude to SPA, our mentors, and the diverse visitors who served as a source of inspiration for us to embark on this blogging journey. SPA offers something exceptional that uplifts the younger generation and contributes to developing a more esteemed and prosperous community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
